When you think of Lady Gaga and fashion, the first thing that comes to mind is Halloween rather than Christmas. Lady Gaga is an icon that never fails to wow and stun, her Midas touch is evident as just yesterday she unveils her first holiday themed wonderland for one of New York’s upscale department store, Barney’s.
“It’s a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory moment,” Gaga said, looking resplendent in her specially designed Karl Lagerfeld dress and striking red lips. “We wanted it all to be whimsical and fun, with a sense of art and fashion.” We can’t agree more. The set up is breathtaking and nothing short of a feast for the eyes.
Fans of Gaga, also fondly known as Little Monsters will be delighted to find all sorts of goodies from iPad covers to lollipops to leather jackets and heel-less booties. Everything in the shop is inspired from her looks and styles she popularized over the years so expect everything to be weird and wacky. Gaga Workshop was conceptualized by herself, her mother Cynthia Germanotta as well as Vogue Hommes Japan fashion director Nicola Formichetti.
A large spider-like creature bearing a Gaga’s image and an uncanny likeness to the wicked witch from the popular musical Wicked, sits in the middle of the room with all sorts of jewellery beneath it.
The shop also sells stuffed animals, books Gaga read in her childhood, and an exclusive jewelry line, a collaboration with Erickson Beamon, which donates 25 percent of all the proceeds to her Born This Way Foundation that fights for anti-bullying.
In fact, here’s the much awaited Christmas musical from the lady herself just released last night in conjunction with Thanksgiving looking well, the most ordinary she’s ever been proving the phrase that simplicity is truly beautiful.
Gaga said it was important for the Workshop to have a charitable aspect, too, so for each product bought from the Workshop or online, 25 per cent of the sale will be donated to Gaga’s anti-bullying Born This Way Foundation.
Looks like Lady Gaga’s idea of Christmas is a tad bit quirkier than us ordinary folks but hey, some weirdness is always welcomed this festive season!
