The authorities have answered major questions about 22-year-old YouTube sensation and singer Christina Grimmie’s tragic death as she was shot at a concert in Orlando, and succumbed to her injuries soon after.
The gunman, who ultimately shot himself, is identified as Kevin James Loibl, 27. He travelled from St Petersburg to Orlando to kill her, and even made plans to travel back, possibly thinking he wouldn’t get caught.
The shooter had two handguns, two additional loaded magazines and a large hunting knife on him. Authorities went through the man’s computer, phone and other belongings, but have failed to find a connection that links Loibl and Grimmie.
A concert goer, who was a witness to the shooting, Destiny Rivera, mentioned that she stood in line behind the shooter at the meet and greet, even making eye contact.
She said he “didn’t look like he was up for a conversation,” and looked “a little bit nervous.” When it was his turn to meet Christina, she greeted him with “her arms open wide ready to greet him, as she would any of her other friends with such enthusiasm,” just before he opened fire.
Rivera also highlighted that security didn’t check everyone’s bags.
“Our other friend actually did have a bag and, just ordinary force of habit, was unzipping her bag and getting ready to show him, and he was like, ‘No, you’re fine, you’re good. Just go,’” she said.
