Facebook users couldn’t be happier when the social media website launched a new range if ‘reaction’ buttons, in addition to the conventional ‘Like’.
However, the Belgian police have warned that using the feature might compromise internet user’s personal privacy. They also released a statement accusing Facebook of being a ‘marketing champion’.
They believe that Facebook came up with the six icons to analyse their users.
“By limiting the number of icons to six, Facebook is counting on you to express your thoughts more easily so that the algorithms that run in the background are more effective.” the statement said.
Which means, with every click, Facebook is actually gathering information about you by assessing the types of content that like and dislike, and that makes it easier for them to tailor their adverts for you. It doesn’t sound all that harmful, but you also want to be careful with what you react to from now on.
Facebook has yet to respond at the time of writing.
