Remember Grace Choi, the Harvard alum who invented a 3D printer that lets you create any shade of makeup on your own? She’s back at it again with another mind-blowing beauty innovation. With the Mink Pen, a device that looks like a tattoo gun, you can mix your own makeup colours to resemble popular shades you can’t seem to get your hands on.
It works with the help of an accompanying app and all you have to do is take a photo or choose one from your gallery, identify the CMY colour value of any shade you like, then start mixing that exact colour of makeup with the code it generates.
By using the pen to measure out the exact value of the three inks and mixing it with makeup base powder, you can create custom eyeshadows, lip gloss, blush and more. These blends are ready in minutes and you can always alter the formula with the mixing mediums, also available by Mink.
It costs a hefty US$295, but imagine being able to create dozens of your very own eyeshadow palettes with just one device and a few materials. Also, being able to respond, “Oh, I made it,” when someone asks about the name of your lipstick shade? That’s priceless.
