AMFA: New Face Model Search 2011

Even if Victoria’s Secret’s casting call is held on an annual basis, let’s face it, although we know they say that we should aim for the stars and all that jazz but some things are way beyond plausible reach.

Beyond plausible reach but certainly not impossible. Not when you can start “aiming for the stars” from your home turf.

Established for the appreciation and cultivation of modeling talent, the Asia Model Festival Awards (AMFA) plays an important role in promoting harmony and exchange between models all over Asia. Organized annually by the Korea Model Association (KMA), which is the only government-sanctioned body under South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the prestigious AMFA is touted as the Academy Awards equivalent to the Asian modeling and fashion industry.

This year, for the first time ever, the AMFA will have Malaysian representatives via the annual Asia New Face Model Search (ANFMS) 2012. Backed by Amber Chia Academy, the search initially saw over 500 submissions which were then narrowed down to the lucky 16 via several eliminating stages.

The 16 triumphant finalists will now undergo a boot camp where they will go through a makeover session and intense training by Amber Chia herself before their official photo shoot challenge.

Of course, the boot camp also includes catwalk training by catwalk guru Benjamin Toong, in preparation for their showdown during the grand finale at Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur, on the 28th of November 2011.

We know this for sure though; the finalists are all competing for one thing and one thing only – for the golden opportunity to make their debut on an international arena.

Because an estimated 1.3 billion people across 128 countries around the world are expected to watch next year’s AMFA (to be held at the majestic Olympic Hall of the Seoul Olympic Park). The AMFA will be aired over more than 20 channels such as SBS Plus, China Gunaxi TV, KNTV Asia and Arirang TV, just to name a few. It will take place throughout an eventful three-day, which will include fashion shows, beauty fairs, an awards ceremony, and of course, the ANFMS 2012.

So, maybe the ANFMS 2012 finalists are just a bit off the grid for a Victoria’s Secret casting call (or any international fashion show casting call). But at least we know that some of them are already well on their way. Which ones? We’ll just have to wait for the grand finale at Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur on the 28th of November.

Hang tight!
