REVIEW: Lipstiq Writers Test Out Some of MAC Cosmetics’ Skincare Products

When you think of the best cosmetic brands, MAC Cosmetics is one of the few that will come to mind as they’re pretty well-known for their amazing range of makeup products. But if you’re not really a beauty junkie or MAC enthusiast, you may not be aware of their skincare range, which is a actually pretty decent. To demonstrate just how good they are, myself and some of Lipstiq’s writers decided to put some products to the test. Read on to find out how it went:

MAC Makeup Remover Wipes

Emma: I love makeup and putting it all, getting my face all done up. What I really don’t like is taking makeup off because it always seems like such a tedious process for me. As much as I hate doing it, I do anyway because leaving all that stuff on your face is not good for the skin. I’m constantly in search of a product that makes removing makeup an easier process and I may have found it with MAC’s Makeup Remover Wipes. I got the bulk wipes, which has 100 sheets in the packaging and I can say that it’ll probably last me a long time.

Priced at RM119, these super-saturated wipes that’s infused with protective vitamin E can pretty much take off all your make up in one wipe. Pretty amazing right? Apart from taking off all the makeup, smudges and dirt, the MAC Makeup Remover Wipes somewhat moisturizes my skin and with really sensitive skin, I found that this product was delicate enough. Another important factor about these wipes is that they’re able to remove waterproof mascras pretty easily. If that’s not a win, I don’t know what is! They also don’t dry up quickly, so you can really take your time when removing your makeup. All in all, I really loved these makeup remover wipes and they’re perfect for travelling too. Even though these wipes removes the bulk of my makeup, I would still finish it off my routine with a facial cleanser.

MAC Cleanse Off Oil

Carmen: My favourite way to remove makeup is to use cleansing oils as they effortlessly melt away traces of makeup, even tough waterproof mascara. Hence, I was excited to test out M.A.C’s Cleanse Off Oil to find out how it’d compare to other cleansing oils I’ve tried. Botanically formulated with oils of olive fruit, evening primrose and jojoba seed, this cleansing oil is 100% mineral-oil free, so it’s gentle on the skin and is great for those with sensitive skin. It also contains Vitamin-E, and leaves the skin feeling nicely conditioned after use.

This cleansing oil has a faint scent that probably wouldn’t irritate scent-sitive souls, and in terms of efficacy, it’s adequate, but not mind-blowing. It does remove the bulk of my makeup, but it doesn’t leave the skin feeling completely clean. Having said that, I like how it doesn’t dry out the skin. On top of the cleansing oil, I always make it a point to double-cleanse the skin, so I’d follow up with a face cleanser anyway. A 150ml bottle for RM110 can seem a little extravagant, but one small pump is sufficient for the entire face, so it’d last you a long time.

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage

Gowri: Since my skin is just constantly soaked in oil, finding the right make-up products can be very tedious. What’s even harder than that is making all the make-up stay on my face without melting away. I also hate it when my skin feels clogged up, which is why MAC’s Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage fit perfectly into my life.

As much as the texture had me skeptical, it left absolutely no residue on my fingers. There was also barely any scent. I applied one pump on my skin after moisturising, and with just a slight tap of my fingertips, the product seamlessly blended into my skin, and smoothened the surface. My make-up lasted over 5 hours that night, and my skin had no problem whatsoever the next morning. I absolutely love the texture; it’s lightweight and non-sticky, everything that a person with oily skin could dream of. It’s priced at RM115.
