It’s such a brilliant idea–why didn’t anyone think of this sooner?!
Iconspeak is simply a T-shirt printed with 40 universal and necessary icons, so now you don’t have to use non-existent sign languages to ask for what you need. It comes in real handy especially when you are in a country where you don’t speak the local language.
The T-shirt is the brainchild of three disillusioned Swiss travellers, after an adventure with a broken-down motorcycle somewhere in Vietnam. “Many times we were confronted with a language barrier that was only to be overcome by drawing signs, symbols or icons on a piece of paper, map, or into the dirt,” explained George, Steven, and Florian.

They added, “We thought it would be great to have an essential set of icons with you, permanently, so that you could just point on whatever you need – and people would understand.”
Well, this T-shirt may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I certainly wish I had this T-shirt with me when I visited China!
