We cannot believe this is happening…
If you love to travel, do note that you may be paying up to 10 times more for flight tickets for airlines operating out of Malaysia from April 15. We say, go ahead with your travel plans now and don’t wait any longer!
The Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) is reportedly increasing its fees for everything including the usage of air space, air traffic facilities, the pilot’s flight licence, and more.
As a result, it will lead up to a ten-fold increase in the airlines’ monthly navigation flight charges (ANFC) and even smaller jets, cargo planes and helicopters will not be spared.
On top of more expensive airfares, the airlines may also start to impose miscellaneous charges in attempt to charge the travellers more.
AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air would be hit the worst, as these airlines have a few hundred domestic flights per week.
Based on the proposal given to airlines, the ANFC charges will rise from five sen per nautical mile to 50 sen for lightweight aircraft. For the bigger aircrafts (the A320/A330 and B737/B777), the cost will rise from RM1-RM2.50 per nautical mile from 10-25 sen, and the A380 will see charges mounting to RM3 from 30 sen now. The minimum charges will be raised from RM5 to RM50 per nautical mile.
It’s safe to say that we can now only dream of travelling as frequently as we’d like… :'( :'( :'(
