[UPDATED] Some F&B Outlets Still Closed Following Explosion At Mid Valley Megamall

OMG!

A loud explosion was at the Chili’s restaurant at Mid Valley Megamall at about 10am today, likely caused by gas cylinders. The mall was then evacuated.

There were initial reports circulating online regarding an external roof that collapsed outside the restaurant and it may have been caused by the explosion. Eight people were injured from the incident and investigations are underway to determine the root of the issue.

Thankfully, there were no fatalities and the mall is now operating as usual although the affected area has been sealed off to ensure public safety.

Mid Valley Megamall has since released a statement:

We regret to inform that we had an accident at Mid Valley Megamall at approximately 9.45am this morning.

During the re-instalment work to our liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) system after maintenance works, we had minor explosions at two food and beverage outlets.

There were minor injuries to our maintenance staff, LPG contractor and tenant staff. Medical treatment is already being given. There were no fatalities, neither where there any injuries to the public.

We are working with the relevant authorities and have shut all the gas systems in Mid Valley Megamall until further notice.

The mall will remain open to visitors and we will keep you updated as and when we have more information.

Safety remains our utmost priority and will focus our attention on the well-being of our tenants and guests. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

[UPDATE] 6 April 2016 – 2.30pm

The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution system in Mid Valley Megamall remains shut down following the explosion yesterday. A full inspection has commenced throughout the shopping mall.

Over 60 food and beverage outlets are currently operating at Mid Valley Megamall, half of which are operational with full menus and the remaining are offering partial menus.
