While we appreciate being blown away by performances by the bevy of artists, the star-studded gala also featured some hits and misses that will go down in the awards’ history books. No, we’re not talking about just the winners alone.
Heidi Klum
For example, just a few weeks after turning up as a cadaver at Halloween, Heidi Klum walks the AMAs red carpet in a silver metallic stencil dress. She’s lucky she’s Heidi Klum because we can’t picture anyone else pulling off an aluminum-foil-like outfit with perforations, with such poise and glamour.
Jennifer Hudson
2004’s American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson also wowed members of the press and media when she turned up in a short, metallic dress with draped detail which accentuated her body in all the right places. She glowed in her absolutely toned and stunning figure. We would too if we recently lost 80 pounds!
Selena Gomez
Joining the throng of shimmering outfits was young Selena Gomez, who stepped out in a dramatic pale gold dress which took us all down memory lane for a bit and into “old Hollywood”. The plunging satin Giorgio Armani gown boasted a tie detail around the dropped waist and a split up to her thigh. Aww, she’s all grown up and glamorous now!
Christina Aguilera
We know shine and shimmer is the “in” thing now considering the fact that half of the AMAs’ red carpet starlets rocked up in them. But we’re not sure if Christina Aguilera got it right. She looked like she squeezed to the point of pain and was spilling out of her glitter silver figure hugging mini-dress. Uh, Christina? Check for size next time.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift, best known for donning outfits that usually become the envy of females around the world, slipped onto the red carpet in an “award-winning country star”-worthy gown. The “country princess” had on a strapless floor-length golden gown by Reem Acra, which was covered in sequins and boasted an elegant train at the back.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry, who is almost always “Gwen Stefani”-esque when it comes to personal style, came dressed as expected – kooky. She chose a Vivienne Westwood Eastern-inspired, Chinese-print dress which flaunted her curvy frame. Katy also ended her floor-length dress on a “high note” with blue heels. Pink hair? Blue heels? We certainly didn’t expect any less from her!
Christina Grimmie
Talented singer from another world and YouTube sensation Christina Grimmie made a lasting impression when she sashayed past fans and members of the media in a red, satin dress paired with a pair of simple black heels. The jaws that dropped and were quickly picked up dropped again when she performed “Higher” with international star Taio Cruz during the red carpet show.
And it’s a wrap! Clearly, some dazzled while other failed to impress at the American Music Awards (AMAs) 2011 today.
