Even though my nose and forehead area is sometimes prone to flakiness, my skin generally tends to get greasy throughout the day no matter what makeup I’m wearing. For that reason, I’ve always swayed away from foundations and BB creams that claim to be extra hydrating or that leave a satin, dewy finish. There was one exception though – I fancy Stila’s Aqua Glow Watercolor Blushes so much, and when the Aqua Glow Serum Foundation and Concealer were introduced, I knew I couldn’t say no.
Aqua Glow Serum Foundation – Firstly, the packaging is lush. The frosty glass bottle rivals many other high-end foundations I own, and its metallic gold cap looks so good on my vanity. Instead of a pump, this foundation comes with a dropper so there is little to no concern about bacteria. It’s nice that you get to control the exact amount of product you draw out.
Formulated with glycerin, hyaluronic acid and water, this lightweight foundation has a light to medium coverage and leaves a beautiful dewy finish, thanks to its multi-reflective pigments. Even though it claims to be a medium-to-buildable foundation, I found that even two layers doesn’t do an amazing job of covering my imperfections or freckles. Having said that, it feels very hydrating and comfortable on the skin. It also photographs very well.
The formula of this foundation is somewhat watery, and I found that applying it with my Sephora PRO Full Coverage Airbrush 53 brush is the best. I love my beautyblender to death, but pairing it with this foundation simply sheered out the coverage even more.
Aqua Glow Serum Concealer – Contained in a soft squeeze tube, this concealer has a dropper-like dispenser where the product comes out of. I wouldn’t say that this packaging is my favourite as I struggled to get the concealer out of the tube even though it has a lightweight, liquid formula.
Compared to many other concealers I’ve tried, this product feels luxurious and is extremely creamy. It melts into the skin and when the concealer is blended out, it instantly brightens the area. Yes, it does look natural and the satin finish is wonderful, but the coverage isn’t impeccable. It works well for undereye darkness and freckles, but the coverage isn’t sufficient for blemishes or acne scarring. I found that tapping the concealer into my skin worked the best.
Even though I got both the foundation and concealer in the same shade (Light), both the products varied in tones. The foundation has a yellow undertone, whereas the concealer has a salmon tint to it, possibly to counteract darkness. The two mesh well together though.
With this foundation and concealer, setting your base with powder is imperative if you don’t want to look like a grease ball by the end of the day. This foundation and concealer combo looks fantastic for a night out or a fancy event, but it certainly isn’t a full-proof, all-day wear kind of combo.
If you like the sheer coverage, this foundation and concealer is worth trying. However, this combo wouldn’t work for those who love piling all their makeup on to look completely flawless. Would you try this foundation and concealer? Let us know! 🙂
