Mark Zuckerberg recently had a rare meeting with China’s propaganda chief, Liu Yunshan, following a crackdown by Beijing authorities on the use of the internet. Liu is seeking out Zuckerberg’s help to work on internet development for the benefit of people of all countries.
But what gained a lot of attention was Zuckerberg’s outfit, he was not seen in his staple grey t-shirt plus grey hoodie. Instead, he donned a sharply-tailored crisp suit to the meeting.
This was not his first time suiting up, of course. He was seen in a suit at a state dinner at the White House last year in February, and also at an awards ceremony in Germany earlier in February.
But even when he was in Germany meeting two ministers, he was seen wearing his signature grey hoodie.
Perhaps he was conforming to China’s expectations of CEO’s, which includes being clean-cut in a suit. After all, in the formal Chinese setting, there is no room for casual attires, not even for an American billionaire.
