Ah, lingerie. Every woman needs a satin slip as much as they need a sexy, racy uh, lacy corset. Because everyone deserves to feel confident and sexy. Every woman deserves to feel like an “Angel”. Right?
But the most important part about owning lingerie is not just reduced to picking out the one that’s right for your body size and type.
To extend the life of your lingerie, you also need to take the aftercare into heavy consideration. And caring for it properly can be tedious because they are delicate items. Meaning, you can’t wash or dry them the same way you would with your, say, gym clothes.
It may take more time to clean but here are some washing methods to avoid your lingerie from looking like a rumpled and ripped up royal mess:
1. For machine wash
Getting a lingerie bag is absolutely vital especially if you’re going to chuck everything into the washing machine. The bags are usually made of mesh and it will help keep your lingerie from being wrapped around the agitator, and protect is from being stretched out.
2. Do it manually
If the washing machine isn’t friendly, you can always opt to hand-wash. Hand-washing is, of course, the best method of lingerie care. But do it in cold water. Hot washing can shrink your lingerie (especially satin lingerie) by 10% to 20% in size.
3. Caring for your corset
We know, we know, corsets are so expensive. So treat it with lots of love and care. Some corsets are made with high-quality steel boning so avoid too much contact with water or, as nature would have it, it will rust. Have it dry-cleaned instead.
4. Sensitive silky stuff
Silk is extremely sensitive to detergents! Make sure you use a mild soap or silk-specific wash, then let the lingerie sit in warm water for about five minutes before rinsing it with cool water. Don’t scrub, don’t wring. After which, you should keep it flat while drying.
5. Extra gentle, extra care
While washing lingerie than can be hand-washed, always remember to fasten any snaps, clasps, or buttons while you’re doing it. This is to avoid any unwanted snagging or tearing of the material. Be gentle with you give it a good rinse and then let it hang dry.
So, you say your goal to own more lingerie has finally been achieved? Now, make it your next goal to make it last as long as possible! Keep ‘em clean and happy.
