Let’s get straight to the point: D Legends Bar at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) is already famous for their signature pork burgers, pork pizzas, pork satays, and unbelievably low beer prices; they need very little introduction amongst beer and pork lovers in the Klang Valley.
After undergoing some changes in management last year, D Legends, armed with a fresh team of chefs in the kitchen, is determined to kick it up a notch. Under new manager Mr. Shankar, their new 2016 menu promises to be a lot more exciting, boasting items like bacon overload fried rice, meaty fries, pork belly rendang and more. There’s also a new section in the menu that allows you to make your own burger, and there’s a Sunday Roast special every weekend. With all these new items buzzing on their Facebook page, we had to find out if they’re as good as they look on the photos!
So we went over to D Legends and challenged them to hit us with some of their best dishes, and here’s how it went:
Meaty Fries – RM 13
Deep-fried luncheon meat saturated with porky perfection, this stack of meaty fries is the perfect snack if you’re there for a chill pint of beer. It’s beefy, crunchy, and goes very well with D Legends’ homemade garlic aioli. Pair it with a pint of beer for maximum satisfaction!
Just Bacon – RM 13
If you ever visit D Legends’ bar and not order a basket of Just Bacon, seriously, I’m unleashing a Terminator on you. Like that pair of black shoes, they go with everything. No matter what you’re having, burger, pizza, fried rice, pasta, a mug of beer–these streaky and crispy bunch of Just Bacon is mandatory!
Bendi and Sour Cream – RM 13
A crowd favourite, this dish is like the Channing Tatum of D Legends’ menu; everyone wants a piece of it, and they keep coming back for more. The okra is laced with Indian spices and fried, and then served with sour cream. Personally, I would have liked it better if the okra were much crunchier, it would have packed a more powerful punch. Nevertheless, it is a chef-recommended dish, so give it a try and let me know if I’m wrong!
Spaghetti Aglio Oglio – RM 20
Tossed with olive oil, garlic, chilli flakes, parsley, bacon, D Legends’ adds a twist to this Italian classic by throwing in some cili padi. No-hassle, palatable and fiery, this worked very well for the I-want-a-simple-but-yummy-dinner girl in me. I just wish I was better at taking the heat! [Tip: it helps to have a chilled mug of Tiger nearby. Rawr.]
Oh, you can also get a vegetarian version of this if you want to skip the bacon, but, why would you do that yourself? Why?
Pork Belly Rendang – RM 20
What’s not to love about this? Slow cooked pork belly, tender, beefy, divine (I can include more adjectives, but that will just spoil it for you) and served with creamy rendang sauce; you can choose have it with rice or just by itself. One my favourite items of the night.
English Breakfast Pizza – RM 30
So, you’re craving for a fancy, classic English breakfast? Have it on a pizza! This clever twist comes with smoked bacon, sausages, sunny-side up eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, layered with cheddar, all in one piece. I swear, if there was a way to include cereal, milk or coffee on a pizza, Shankar and his team will find a way to do it!
Chocolate Brownie – RM 12
Yes, brownies are inherently amazing; they’re sweet and moist and orgasmic and everything. What makes this particular brownie so special? BACON. WHIPPED.CREAM. As the brownie melts in your mouth, the taste is enhanced 10 times with chunks of bacon mixed in the chilled cream. It’s like a journey to paradise city and back. Yes, seriously, get your car keys right now!
To complete the night, we were served with two pints of Guinness by the good people at D Legends. According to Shankar, only 3 people are allowed to pour the Guinness–we know the perfect pour is a meticulous process and not as easy as it looks. Even Shankar admits that he hasn’t been able to nail the perfect pour!
Since I got a nice black pint with the white creamy head sitting just above the lip of the pint glass, I’m giving it a 10/10.
D Legends offer some of irresistible beer deals and promos every day; their award winning Tiger retails at RM48 nett before 8pm for 4 mugs, and you can get their Heineken/Guinness/Kilkenny set at RM70 for 3 pints.
Since you’ve got this far, assuming you’re a big-time D Legends fan, we’re gonna let you in on a secret: Mr. Shankar plans to open another branch nearby KL! Location is still unconfirmed as of now, but follow them on Facebook to keep abreast of all the latest updates and promos 🙂
