Mad Max: Fury Road was a big winner on Oscar night, winning six out of ten nominations. Jenny Beavan was the first from Mad Max team to snag an Oscar for Costume Design, followed by awards for Production Design, Make-up & Hairstyling, Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Having said that, they did miss out on the bigger categories like Best Director and Best Picture.
The Revenant had 12 nominations that night. Alejandro Inarritu took home the Oscar for Best Director for The Revenant – he won the same category last year for Birdman. The Revenant also bagged Oscars for Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Cinematography, all the categories that Mad Max was also nominated in. However, the Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy starred flick lost in the Visual Effects category to Ex Machina.
Although Star Wars Episode VII had a phenomenal success at the box office, it didn’t win a single award at the Oscars. It was, however, nominated in five categories; Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Original Music Score. The Martian also surprisingly didn’t land an Oscar, despite seven nominations.
The Spotlight, starring Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams, took home the Oscar for Best Picture.
