A small plane carrying 21 people on board went missing near the mountains of Nepal early on Wednesday. Rescue helicopters were deployed to search for The Twin Otter aircraft after it disappeared from the flight radar 8 minutes after departure from Pokhara.
The plane was then found crashed in a mountainous region of northern Nepal and bodies are apparently seen scattered around the area. Officials said that there may be no survivors, and they have yet to identify the bodies.
The plane was heading to Jomsom – a breathtaking destination to go trekking in the Himalayas. The supposed flight duration from Pokhara to Jomsom is 20 minutes.
Nepal, which is still recovering from the recent earthquake last April, and has suffered a number of air disasters recently, and most have attributed them to poor management, inexperienced pilots and poor maintenance.
The country’s aviation sector has come under fire from international authorities and in 2013, the European Union banned all Nepalese airlines from flying there.
