It was just announced that street racing may be legalised in Kuala Lumpur to curb illegal menace.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that this move is done to overcome the rising number of illegal bike racing problems as many locals have turned to unsanctioned racing for the economical thrills.
He stated that Putrajaya isn’t trying to impose illegal racing. Instead, it’s a method of curbing the action by suggesting alternatives like having organised races.
“I don’t want to call them Mat Rempit but Mat Moto. We will control the situation because we realise that this is entertainment for them. They have no other way to entertain themselves because of the high costs,” he told reporters.
Tengku Adnan also shared a suggestion from the government to close city roads in the national capital once a week and set that aside for motorcycle racing. He said there were organised races in enclosed tracks like the one in Batu 3, Shah Alam but added that the public response was not favourable, which is why many returned to racing illegally on the streets.
A programme to address the illegal street racing problem will soon be formed between Umno and the Barisan Nasional coalition.
What do you think about this? :/
