Apple’s Error 53 Knows About Unauthorized Repairs

Error 53 = Apple killing its own iPhone units. A little clueless on what we’re talking about? Let us fill you in. Apple now has the power of disabling your iPhone if there is by any chance you brought your phone to be repaired by a third party/non-Apple technician. Mm-hmm, your neighborhood IT quick-fix store is included.

Once your iPhone is ‘bricked’ (another word the tech experts call for disabled), it is official that your phone is as good as… a brick. Data, contacts, photos and purchased apps.. all gone with the wind. Bear in mind that the issue will only surface to those with the iOS 9 iPhone Software.

“We take customer security very seriously and error 53 is the result of security checks designed to protect our customers. When an iPhone is serviced by an unauthorized repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated” said in a statement by a spokeswoman.

If you had your phone repaired by a third party recently, we pray that you’ve yet to upgrade to iOS 9 and hopefully never will. If you have, note that it’s only Apple technicians from now on! Eeeeep.
