There really are no other ways to emphasize on how important it is for an individual to be comfortable in their own skin despite today’s social norm. Barbie Ferreira, an 18 year-old model inspired a lot of people who have been dealing with body image insecurity when she appeared in Aerie’s new ad campaign without being retouched.
The brand Aerie had launch its #AerieREAL campaign nearly two years ago with the promise to not retouch any of their models although most of them seemed to be slim and slander. Which was exactly why Barbie received so much praises and attention on social media when she flaunted her 30” waist and 44” hips in a hot pink string bikini.
“Not being retouched in the images is something really important to me. People knowing that that’s what I look like, without anyone’s perception of what my body needs to look like. The world needs more women who are so strong” she said and later on added, “I just don’t like the term plus size it reminds me of the word oversize I am not with it…Curvy is cuter. One day I won’t have to say curvy model and I can just say model. The ultimate dream.”
