After 44 years of reigning in the newsstands, CLEO Australia has confirmed that they will be ceasing their operations. This came out as a shock, especially since CLEO rubbished rumours about them closing down just a few days back, calling the rumours “complete speculations”.
CLEO was launched way back in 1972, and has since reached out to millions of women with advice and tips on career, sex, relationships and empowerment. But with the times changing and people resorting to free materials online, circulation figures have dropped way too much for them to keep it going.
CEO of Bauer Media thanked the CLEO editorial team for their hardwork and dedication over the years, and went to say that, ““Scale, engagement and a robust digital strategy are key to our success and we believe we have a compelling offer in Dolly and Cosmopolitan to lead our young women’s portfolio into the future.” Bauer Media is planning to invest in Dolly by adopting a digital-first approach.
CLEO Australia’s final issue will go on sale on the 22nd of February.
