British actor, Alan Rickman dies at 69 after a long battle with cancer. Known and highly praised for his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, fans around the world raised their wands for the last time, mirroring a scene from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” where Hogwarts students raise their wands in tribute to the late Albus Dumbledore.
Co-star, Ian McKellen describes Rickman to be a ‘hilarious, generous friend’ and has always been at the top of his ‘dream-list dinner guests’. While Harry Potter author JK Rowling wrote on Twitter: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor and a wonderful man.”
