The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta has just suffered a series of explosions and gunfire, right in the city centre. So far, it has been reported that at least 4 people have died from what the police calls a terrorist attack. Official authorities worry that the number of fatalities will go up. Apparently the target was meant to be a police station that was located at a major intersection, which is now totally damaged by bomb blasts. According to a witness, one police officer is confirmed to have been killed by gunfire.
This marks the first major attack in Jakarta since what happened in 2009 at the J.W. Marriot and Ritz Carlton hotels. That attack killed seven people.
Currently officials are trying to contain the situation and so many questions haven’t been answered such as how many people were involved in these attacks and how many locations exactly.
Indonesian National Police spokesman Anton Charlivan said that the gunmen were using grenades and exchanged gunshots with officers. Three civilians and a police officer are those that died during the attack.
