When art meets beauty

Wong Kar Wai is a man whose work resonates with. With movies like Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, 2046 and In The Mood of Love, His films are often somber, provocative and melancholic as they weave through hauntingly complex relationship and narratives.

Unlike the usual action, slapstick or period dramas Hong Kong constantly churns out, Wong’s work is on a different plane altogether often combining themes of isolation and dislocation with breathtaking visual aesthetics and notable use of color so it comes as no surprise that this award winning visionary has been sought after by reknown Japanese makeup brand Shu Uemura for their latest holiday collection. Shu Uemura has previously collaborated with other Asian artists inlcuding photographer Mika Ninagawa and fashion designer Tsumori Chisato for their holiday collections.

This year Wong Kar Wai has teamed up with them to create an exclusive short film called ‘Mask’, a dreamy nostalgic yet dramatic story flushed in hues or blue and red, colors which are iconically incorporated into his films.

The short which took two days to shoot was inspired by a poem by Charles Bukowski whose line “burning in water, drowning in flame”, a contradiction of passion, a paradox, says Wong. He added, “I enjoyed working with individuals and brands who know how to appreciate art and perfection. Shu Uemura is one of them.”

The collection includes two eye & cheek palettes, a mascara, a lusciously glittery premium false eyelash, partial false eyelash, a lustrous glowy face powder, lipsticks, two mini nail polish sets, cosmetic pouch, mini brush set and a cleansing oil (450ml) in limited edition packaging.

Shu Uemura Malaysia is giving you a chance to get your hands on some of these holiday goodies! To win a couture gown worth RM3000 or RM1000 worth of Shu Uemura products, head over to any Shu Uemura store and get a free (yes you head that right!) makeover.

Take a photo of yourself, post it on their Facebook wall and if you get 10 likes, you’re instantly in the running to score yourself some of these gorgeous goodies! For more information on the Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai collection, click here.
