When you hear the word sunscreen, you think it’s something that’s needed only before you jump into the pool. Well, we hate to rain on your parade but you’re absolutely wrong. It may feel like an unnecessary step to your morning routine but it’s actually imperative that you do add this one product to your beauty regime. Applying everyday sunscreen before stepping out of the house every morning will be so beneficial as it protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays that can be harmful.
If you’re not too sure on which ones to choose, I have tried a plethora of everyday sunscreens and here are my top 10:
Clinique Super City Block SPF 40
This amazing sunblock has gotten a lot of good reviews and when I had the chance to try it out for myself, I understood why. With its high SPF, this every day sunscreen helps protect your skin but also give you a lit-from-within dewy look. There’s a creamy feel to this sunscreen but not enough to make your face feel cakey. It’s almost as if you’re not wearing an extra layer of product before your foundation. I didn’t get any breakouts or irritation so, I would say that it’s safe on sensitive skin.

Lancôme UV Expert XL-Shield
This sunscreen by Lancôme is super light and has a non-oily texture, which is a major plus, especially for those with slightly oily skin. Like most sunscreens, you can use this on its own or before you apply your foundation but you’ll find that on its own the product leaves a silky feel to your skin. Because it’s also a BB cream, I found that it helped with my uneven skin tone while giving my face a dewy sort of look. With its high SPF, you can be sure that your skin is totally protected!

Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution SPF50 Blue
This range has been around for 10 years, so you know it works. The whole idea behind the UV Plus Anti-Pollution Day Screen is to protect your skin not only from harmful UV rays but also, the toxicity in polluted air. It’s well known that both play a major role in damaging the skin. This range comes in three different shades: Baby Pink, Baby Blue and Neutral. I tried out the baby blue and since my skin has been getting some red spots lately, it’s really helped with that. The baby blue shade also helps even out your skin tone, giving your complexion a more evenly-flawless look. What I especially love is the subtle sheen it gave my face!

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+ WetForce
This highly water-resistant sunscreen contains a polymer, which reacts with the minerals in water or even your own sweat, that ultimately forms a strong layer to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Living in a tropical country where it’s hot and humid, having this on is a major advantage. I love how it’s not only suitable for the pool but also for every day. I highly recommend those that are constantly on-the-go to use this. The smell of this sunscreen is not overwhelming, in fact it’s quite pleasant. The consistency is very watery but soaks into the skin really fast and if you’re applying it over your daily moisturiser, it doesn’t at all feel too thick.

Dior One Essential City Defense
The unique selling point for the Dior Essential City Defense is that it protects you from the toxic particles in the polluted everyday air and the harmful UV rays. This baby is packed with SPF 50, so you know that your skin is getting plenty of protection. The texture for this sunscreen is very light, which is great for those who are not into the more creamy consistency. There is a shaker in the bottle, which helps optimise the product before use. All in all, this one is definitely worth having. The smell is not too strong and it comes in a travel-friendly bottle. What more could you ask for?
Verdict: 7/10
Benefit Dream Screen
Without going on and on about the Dream Screen, I am going to get to it: It provides broad spectrum sun protection, which is all you really need and want in a sunscreen product. However, I am going to point out that this product is probably best for those with normal and dry skin. If you’ve got a slightly oily skin, you will not like how it feels on your skin because even though it’s a little matte, on oily skin it will give a very greasy feel. The recipe for this product is completely oil-free even though it feels slightly oily when applied, but don’t worry. Just give it a few minutes to set in and you’re good to go. It’s also fragrant-free, which can be a major plus point for those that don’t care for scents in their beauty products.
Verdict: 7.5
Dior DiorSnow UV Shield
Another Dior sunscreen on the list, this particular one is perfect for those with slightly dry skin to normal skin. It’s a little heavy, so might come off as a little bit oily for some, so again, I only recommend this for those with normal to dry skin. If you have the right skin type, this sunscreen will feel light and have a matte finishing on your skin. It blends into your skin really well and if you’re wearing it over your usual foundation, you’ll hardly notice that it’s there. You can also use it on its own and give your face a slight natural-looking glow. I love this product, especially for super sunny days.
Verdict: 7.5
Laneige Sun Block Supreme
Suitable for all skin types this everyday sunscreen is definitely one of my favourites from the list. It’s not completely oil-free, so if you have really oily skin, this is not the product for you. However, if you have normal to dry skin, this product provides the perfect everyday protection. When applying to the skin, you’ll notice a slight sheen but it quickly absorbs into the skin, providing you the protection your face needs. With a climate like ours, you want to stay away from heavy sunscreens but this product is totally lightweight and won’t leave your face feeling like it’s been smeared with cooking oil. This sunscreen also spreads very easily, which makes the application process a fast and easy one.
Verdict: 8/10
Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Crème
Although it’s actually a CC creme, this one from Ole Henriksen works just as well as an everyday sunscreen thanks to its SPF 30 factor. The texture for this baby feels very cream-based, almost like a foundation but not as heavy as a foundation would feel. Applying to the skin is a very easy process and after its already set into the skin, the product won’t leave smudges or any cakey lines. The liquid absorbs pretty instantly and after a full day use, your skin will remain feeling oil-free. Love it and would highly recommend this one.
Verdict: 7.5
Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense
Let me say this sunscreen is unlike any other! It’s got a ridiculously high SPF (which is not a bad thing if you have been reading this article right) and totally not oily. But I do suggest those with oily skin to keep away from this particular one as it can leave your skin feeling greasy. I have dry skin so it was great when applied on my face and despite the humid weather we have to endure here, the sunscreen does not get cakey, which is always a major plus. Quick absorption and doesn’t leave a white cast, this sunscreen is one that will be worth purchasing for sure.
