Any woman that’s been on the birth control pill will know the perils that comes with stopping. For some, the skin situation is not so bad, for others it’s pretty bad that it almost changes your entire skin type. I had pretty great skin before I made the decision to get on birth control, I never understood the problems that my friends had with oily skin, acne and etc. While on the pills, my skin pretty much stayed the same, it looked fab. It was free of any spots and scaly patches but the trouble began once I decided to get off these pills forever.
Overnight, my skin became troubled: dry, oily t-zone, scaly red patches and the list goes on. It was actually quite scary and it took months for it to really settle down and it has, but truth be told – my skin was never the same. But then I made the decision to chuck out my normal skincare products and try an organic range instead.
Thanks to the folks at Melvita and their skin expert, I was recommended 5 products that would help my skin woes. I would classify my skin as really dry, therefore more oil gets secreted to make up for the dryness. Floral Bouquet Softening Cleansing Milk
First up, we have this product that is probably one of my two favourites out of the five that I tried. For someone with dry skin, I felt that this really helped. It took a while to get used to the fact that the cleanser does not require being mixed with a bit of water to lather though. Definitely gentle on the skin and the velvety smooth texture that’s left on your skin after washing it off feels like a layer of protection. The floral scent is there but it’s not overpowering like a few other floral cleansers that I’ve tried in the past. I really like this cleanser and after trying it out, I’d say it’s a keeper. For those with skin similar to mine, you might want to give this a try.
Rose Extraordinary Water
To me this product is better than your average toner. After all, it is called Extraordinary Water! It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid from soya and organic glycerine, which helps lock in the moisture. I love the unusual gel texture too. I use this right after I am done with the Softening Cleansing Milk and I apply it on to my skin with a clean cotton pad. You can use a special tool that’s meant for this product (they sell them at all Melvita outlets) if you feel like splurging but I thought that the cotton pads sufficed. I’ve never been a fan of toners but this one left my skin feeling supple and fresh.
Argan+ Face Care Oil
Definitely a staple in my skincare portfolio, the Argan+ Face Care Oil gives my face the quick moisture surge it needs every single time. This follow up product after their best-selling Argan Oil is packed with anti-ageing amino acids, which helps firm, nourish and hydrate the skin. A lot of people will stay away from any product that has the word oil in it, in fear of it being too… well, oily. But I have tried many argan oil products and this one is definitely in my top 5. It’s very, very lightweight, and it can be used day or night, though I prefer to only use it at night. It smells absolutely divine and with dry skin such as mine, one application is enough to give it the moisture it needs. Sometimes I apply a little bit more than usual to give my skin a sort of “argan treatment” right before I go to bed.
Damask Rose Floral Water
Not to be confused with the Rose Extraordinary Water, this baby right here is a hydrating spritz. It can be used over or under skincare but when I was at one of Melvita’s store with their skin specialist, I was told that I should put this after applying the Argan+ Face Care Oil (or any serum) followed by a moisturizer. This can also be used if you’re not in the mood for a toner, I think! It all depends on how much moisture and hydration your skin needs. For me, the more the better and I liked that I could just spray this on my face.
Nectar Supreme The Cream
It doesn’t have the word supreme in its name for no apparent reason. This new one from Melvita is a gorgeous little cream that’s packed with organic goodness meant to smooth, brighten and hydrate your skin. I tried using this for a few days and then stopped for another few days just to see if there was a difference in how my skin felt and looked, and there is A LOT of difference. Thanks to the generous people at Melvita, I got the chance to try a tub and I can say that it’s the perfect finishing product to my skincare routine. After as little as four times of using it, I immediately saw a change in my skin. It’s meant to also firm the skin but I have yet to see that happen. This product has a strong smell to it though, nothing unpleasant that would make me (or you) stop from using it, but just note that it can get a little overpowering. I slap on a bit more on my face during the night compared to daytime because I sleep in air conditioned room, so it’s good to stay moisturized. A little steep in price, but is it worth it? Well, I say if you can afford it then try it out. You might love it just as much as I do and I reckon even a small tub is enough to last a few months! Basically, My skin really loves this pink tub of moisturizing cream and yours might too!
