It’s once again that time of the year whereby you can go crazy and step out of your house looking like someone or something you’re not. This Halloween, instead of just sharing some awesome makeup looks with you, we thought we’d try some of them out and rate them for you! Let’s just say I had a blast recreating these looks and I hope you would too.
Here are four tutorials we picked and tried out:
1. Wednesday Addams
Drawing the widow’s peak to make it natural was difficult. This look also doesn’t involve much contouring because you want to look as pale as possible. Overall, it’s simple. Just maintain your whole look on a grayscale ’cause that’s just the type of person Wednesday is. Here’s a tip: If you don’t have black lipstick and you don’t plan to splurge on one, a pencil eyeliner will do the trick.
What I used: I used black eyeliner for the widow’s peak and lips, a matte highlighter on my entire face, dark brown on the brows and a little bronzer on the hollows of my cheeks. As for the eyes, I just used some jet black mascara.
2. Fairy/Festival Goer
This tutorial is intended for a music festival, but I thought it would be the perfect pretty look for Halloween! This look was simple to do, but you need a whole lot of extra blush on your cheeks. I have hooded eyelids, so I created a cut-crease look with dark purple eyeshadow. Don’t worry about adding too much blush because the ‘pearls’ will soften the look. Go all out and have fun!
What I used: A palette with shades of purple, a bright pink blush and my everyday makeup base. I opted for the white face paint for the ‘pearls’ as it’s much cheaper and more convenient. Top it off with a huge flower crown and falsies.
3. Deer
I don’t have the sharpest nose, but I wanted to try this out anyway. I followed the tutorial, but adjusted the lines according to my own face shape. What I did was focus on the centre and I didn’t line the corners. For this look, I didn’t have bottom lashes on, but as long as you have some ultra-long, feathery lashes on the top, it should look fine. I also used a cotton bud to dot my white paint on and it worked.
What I used: I bought a pot of white face paint for the freckles or dots, white eyeshadow on the nose and eyes, a dark shade of bronzer, loads of eyeliner and a set of falsies. As for the antlers, I used some twigs from my garden.
4. Black Swan
Even if you don’t have a steady hand, just be confident in what you’re doing and it’ll work out fine. Start with little dots and strokes. Then, perfect them. Draw on your lines according to your eye shape. My tip is to draw one line on the right, then one line on the left and go on repeatedly. I did it this way because I wanted both the eyes to look as similar as possible. Complete the look with a tutu, a black tube top and you’re good to go!
What I used: I used a mix of black liquid and gel eyeliner for my eyes and eyebrows, silver with a tinge of green eyeshadow, a contour shade and a matte white highlighter on the entire face. As for the lips, I used a plum shade with a black pencil eyeliner on the sides. I then finished the look with a pair of long spidery lashes.
