So it’s that time of the year again where you paint on layers and layers of makeup paired with an outfit that will either fright or seduce, either way, Halloween is all about being unabashed and creative. However as much as we’d like the night to go smoothly, how certain are you that your outfit and makeup will last through a night of partying and crowd sifting. Here are some tips to help you survive the true horrors of Halloween:
Allergies begone!
Just like makeup and other skincare products you might want to do a patch test on yourself if you plan to slather paint all over yourself in case you plan to go as a blue Smurf. While your look is a definite crowd turner, you don’t want everyone to see you scratching yourself throughout the night. Worse, you’ll have to live with the rash the day after. Conduct a patch test by applying a small amount of the product on the inside of your elbow and leave it on for about a day. If your skin starts getting bumps, redness or itchiness, cease to use it. Just because it’s nontoxic it doesn’t mean it will work for you.
Color me silly
If you take Halloween seriously, you’ll know for a fact that no look is complete without getting your hair done as well. For example, Poison Ivy is only as famous for her luscious red locks and if you’re going as Lady Gaga, well it looks like there’s going to be plenty of colors to choose from but before you subject your hair to permanent damage for a brief night of fun, here’s what you should know. Using plenty of hair spray or temporary spray-on color will make you more flammable than usual (yes, we know you’re hot already babe) especially in clubs where cigarettes are aplenty. Invest in a cheap wig or extensions, they’ll come in handy for other occasions that’s for sure.
Blistering boils
Unless part of your act is to hobble around, make sure that you wear shoes that are comfortable throughout the night. If in the unfortunate event that the shoes that came with your costume is a size to small use band aids, gel pads, baby powder or Vaseline to keep blisters at bay.
Sparkle frenzy
Using glitter is a fast way to draw attention and look fabulous in pictures but because they are little tiny particles that are harder than dust itself, getting them into your eyes can be rather fatal so make sure you use cosmetic grade glitter and not those from art and craft stores. Also when you get home, take off your lenses before slowly removing your makeup.
Be creative with your costumes, while outfits that bare skin turn heads it’s the unique contemporary ones that make it to Facebook the next day like the infamous pastry rainbow Nyan Cat.
Happy spooking!
