In December 2013, everyone got excited over the news that Facebook was releasing a “dislike” button, but it just turned out to be stickers you could use as a chat feature.
However, now, Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the social networking site is indeed working on alternatives to the “like” button. It may not necessarily be called a “dislike” button, and it wouldn’t be for expressing disdain for posts. Instead, the alternatives can be used for showing empathy.
Zuckerberg gave no release date, but said, “Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to be able to say ‘that thing isn’t good,’ and we’re not going to do that.”
“I don’t think that’s socially very valuable, or great for the community.”
