Sometimes, taking public transportation means you have to spend more time walking to your preferred destination, depending on where you get dropped off or where the station and stop is located. Even more so when you’re all alone, walking can get dangerous and your safety would be of utmost concern.
For that reason, some creators have developed Companion, a safety app that virtually escorts you home and instantly notifies your selected contacts if you are in danger. Users can send contacts a request, and if they accept, they will be taken to a page with a map equipped with live location tracking to stay updated on the users’ whereabouts.
The app utilises phone sensors as a series of triggers that could indicate possible signs of distress. If the user begins running, drops their phone, or disconnects their headphones, the app will prompt them to keep everything in check. If the user does not respond in 15 seconds, their selected contacts are alerted immediately.
The app is available now in the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store. Try it out today! We’ve just downloaded ours and will be testing it out soon.
While we’re on the topic of keeping yourself safe when walking, here’s how you can stay safe while taking public transportation. 🙂
