There’s a lot of  misconception about the detox diet and what it’s meant to do for your body. But we’ve looked into most of the common misunderstandings of the detox and tell the full truth, and nothing about the truth about the detox diet!

1. Detox has nothing to do with weight loss. It’s a process to eliminate negative effects in our body from the environment. Detoxing helps to remove toxic substances from the kidney and colon.

2. Detoxing will help stimulate the immune and hormonal system, which in return reduces your dependency on sugar, alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.

3. There are two kinds of detoxes – short-term and long-term. Common short-term detox diets include juice fasts and colon cleansing. Long-term detox programs includes a change in your daily diet like avoiding meats, carbohydrates and sweeteners, and consuming for fruits and vegetables.

4. Reducing stress is also a way to detox, and you can try various exercises like Yoga and Tai Chi, and other therapies like acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and more.

5. Detox should be to improve one’s overall health, and not to lose weight. The only reason why you’re able to lose weight, is because your body is cleaner that it normally is, allowing food to pass through easier.

6. An easy way to detox your body without going through extreme measures is to add lemon to your water everyday. The acid in lemon assists the cleansing process, and due to its high acidity and high ph, it can penetrate and break down fat molecules.

7. Juice cleanses are also quite easy to work with. Freshly squeeze juices (without sugar) are high in finer and give your digestive tract a rest, while filling your body up with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, enzymes and chlorophyll.

8. The most cleansing fruits include apples, grapes, grapefruit, lemon, lime, mango, orange, pineapple, strawberries and watermelon.

9. Cleansing vegetables include beet, celery, carrot, cucumber, fresh ginger, parsley and spinach.

10. Incorporate high-water content foods like watermelon, tomatoes and apples when you’re on a detox diet, and cut down on your meat and gluten intake to avoid bloating.

Warning: Remember to consult a physician before you embark on a detox diet to avoid any medical complications.
