10 Common Skincare Mistakes We Make

When it comes to taking care of our skin, the regular skin care routine is what we do to look fresh and healthy the whole day. However, there comes a time where your beautiful glowing skin turns dull and dry with acne, even with the skin care regimen.

Things just gone absolutely wrong and you have no idea how does all these happened. Truth to told, if it wasn’t for these skin care products, your skin wouldn’t even be that healthy and clean. There are 10 common mistakes we make when it comes to taking care of our skin, and they are the prime factors of all the possible complexions on our skin.

1. Wrong cleanser

Just because you bought the top-selling skin care product, that doesn’t mean the product you’re using is a suitable product for you. The cleanser which has not been formulated for your skin type could have done something worse to your face than the regular one! Hence, your skin ended up getting extremely dry or too oily due to the usage of wrong cleanser. Cleansers must be chosen based on your skin type and skin condition.

 2. Unnecessary face touching

We know it’s hard to resist not touching your face, but touching it too often is the main cause of breakouts! There are million types of germs on our body and these germs will clog the pores whenever you touch your face. In fact, squeezing your pimples make it worse as the bacteria from the pimples can be transferred over to other unaffected part of your face. Avoid touching your hand excessively or only touch it when it is completely clean and bacteria-free.

3. Unbalanced diet

An unbalanced diet affects our body in every way including our own skin. Our bodies need different kind of minerals and vitamins to ensure our bodies are in good condition. Too much or lack of vitamins and minerals are both making some part of the body weak. While your appearance is important, but keeping the healthy body with balanced diet is a must!

4. Toner Overload

Toner is generally used as an oil controller, but excessive use of toner can leave our skin oilier and duller than before. In fact, most alcohol based toners could be damaging to our skin as it strips away the oil on our skin. However, as different people have different skin types, it is better to seek advice from the skincare expert.

5. Insufficient rest

Sleep is important and that gives our skin  the chance to repair and rejuvenate itself after a hard day. Lack of sleep will only worsen your skin condition as the skin, so take note that your skin will regenerate  between 10pm to 1am and you will need up to 6-8 hours of sleep a day.

Sunscreen is the most important product in one’s skin care routine. The sun emits damaging UVA and UBA rays that are harmful to our skin. Wrinkles, age spots, sunburns and premature aging are the results of not practicing any proper sun protection. Hence, it is important to apply sunscreen cream or sunscreen wherever you go (even when you are indoor) throughout the year.

7. Over exfoliation

Exfoliation can gives us a smooth, healthy-looking skin as it helps to get rid of the dead skin cells. However, over exfoliation harms our skin as it strips away the layers of healthy skin cells leading to larger pores, whiteheads, pimples and skin dryness. It would be the best for you to exfoliate your skin once every two weeks.

8. Dehydration

When taking care of your skin, it is important to moisturize your skin inside-out. Apart from using a moisturizing cream, keep your skin hydrated by drinking 6-8 glasses of water daily. It helps to get rid of the toxins in your body, giving you better skin complexion.

9. Not taking make up off before going to bed

Make up removal is the most important step in skin care routine before going to bed. Whether you’re staying indoors or outdoors, your skin tends to accumulate dirt and oil that clogs the pore all throughout the day. So no matter how tired you are, get rid of the dirt and make up on your skin first before it becomes the breeding ground for bacteria.

10. Overwashing your face

Washing or cleansing is recommended to get rid of the dirt. But most people believe cleansing often will only make it cleaner. Contrary to popular belief, overwashing your skin can be damaging, leading to dry and rough skin. This is because the cleanser strips off the natural oils on your skin and leaves your severely dehydrated. Hence, it is advised to wash your skin twice a day; before the day starts and before bed time.
