Prepare to have your mind blown! You read it right, Hello Kitty is actually not a cat. I know, you’re heaving and wondering, “What?! How can that be? Why did my parents tell me Hello Kitty was a cat when it wasn’t.” It’s all so overwhelming, so give yourself a second and just breathe. Everything is going to be okay.
Sanrio recently proved to us all that we’ve been fooled for the longest time because Hello Kitty is definitely not a cat. I know, she looks like one but she ain’t one! Yes, you’re still thinking, “How can that be? Her name is Hello Kitty, therefore she must be a cat!” But she is not, Hello Kitty is actually based on a real life British girl called Kitty White. Yes, I wanna know why this girl has got whiskers too.
University of Hawaii Anthropologist and Hello Kitty expert (I’m not making this up as I go along), Christine R. Yano, has studied this cute cartoon character for years and has even written a book about Hello Kitty
“Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it’s called Charmmy Kitty,” said University of Hawaii Anthropologist and Hello Kitty expert Christine R. Yano. She has studied Hello Kitty for years and even wrote a book about Hello Kitty.
Just in case you’re wondering about the actual girl, Kitty White, according to Yano, Kitty has a twin and is in the third grade. Should you be interested to know what her personality is like, she is a Scorpio. She also really likes apple pie.
Now, let all that sink in!
