The 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers will always remain one of the most emblematic structures in Malaysia, and now Malaysian fashion designer Rizman Ruzaini is alleviating international recognition for the Twin Towers by looking to the skyscrapers for iconic inspiration in designing the National Costume for the 65th Miss Universe Pageant.
Reigning Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 Kiran Jassal will be donning the Twin Towers National Costume as she represents our nation at the 65th Miss Universe Pageant, which is to be held on 30 January 2017 in Manila, Philippines, alongside a Preliminary Evening Gown by the same designer, Ruzaini.
Embellished with over 100,000 Swarovski crystals, the majestic Twin Towers National Costume is a silver-coloured jumpsuit with exaggerated sleeves symbolising the Twin Towers, and a crystal adorned choker embodying the Sky Bridge that links the two towers.
The futuristic yet opulent-looking jumpsuit showcases a powerful silhouette that is elegant, and is also made with custom-made materials such as laser cut metal to emulate the glass windows and the steel beams on the Twin Towers. Clashing panels on the bodice further illustrates the wondrous architecture of the Twin Towers.
Also showcased is the National Gift to be offered by contestants to the host city, and Kiran will be presenting a Kuala Lumpur skyline inspired Swarovski Scarf by the dUCk Group. Crafted in luxurious satin silk, the brand’s top design was recreated in a pink hue for the pageant and it is also decked out in 500 Swarovski crystals, each placed by hand.
