The first trailer for manga series inspired live-action picture Ghost in the Shell dropped on Sunday, and it gives us the first look at Scarlett Johansson‘s most controversial role yet, for being a non-Asian actress playing Asian character Major Motoko Kusanagi.
British director Rupert Sanders was accused of Hollywood whitewashing as ScarJo was appointed as the main cast, stripping the story of its weight and relevance. With that said, the new trailer of Ghost in the Shell released by Paramount still looks extremely promising.
ScarJo takes on the role of a special-ops, human-cyborg hybrid who is the leader of elite task force Section 9, devoted to stopping criminals and extremists. The trailer showcases futuristic and stunning visuals as she saves lives with her special abilities.
Johansson stars alongside Juliette Binoche, Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt and more. Ghost in the Shell hits Malaysian cinemas in March 2017. Watch the trailer here:
