Tons of global travellers fly to Lombok, Indonesia on the daily to get to the popular Gili islands, but not many of them stop by to experience Lombok’s treasured appeal and what this beautiful island has to offer. Lombok has long been overshadowed by its superstar neighbour, Bali, but the two are so distinctly different in terms of character.
Aside from breathtaking white-sand beaches and world-class surfing spots, Lombok boasts lush forests, bountiful tobacco and paddy fields, hot springs, pristine waterfalls, a crater lake and of course, the mighty Mount Rinjani, which is Indonesia’s second tallest active volcano. If you’re a nature lover who constantly yearns for new adventures, Lombok is a must-see.
After our visit to the Gili islands recently, we spent a night in Senggigi, which is a popular strip along the beachfront off the island of Lombok. Looking to rest, relax and unwind completely before heading back home to Kuala Lumpur the next evening, we desired for a traditional-style luxury accommodation and ended up in Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa.
This privately-owned resort combines time-honoured Indonesian architecture with modern day facilities for an intimate property for individuals who seek ultimate tranquility. Featuring 37 gorgeous rooms that can be well-suited to a range of travel budgets, its entire vicinity is surrounded in beautiful lush greenery and presents a photo opportunity at every corner.
Established in the early ’90s, Puri Mas offers guests a plethora of accommodation options – whether it be large villas, with or without private jacuzzis, luxurious suites, or cosy standard rooms with a garden view. Needless to say, our Jacuzzi Villa looked magnificent and really surpassed our expectations.
As we unlocked the wooden doors to our private villa, an extensive outdoor terrace can be seen decked out with sun beds, coffee and tea making facilities, a coffee table and chairs, and not forgetting the best part – a jacuzzi. We hadn’t even stepped into the actual bedroom and yet, we’d already fallen in love.
The stunning bedroom featured a grand king-sized bed complete with an extravagant canopy, a comfortable couch, an LCD television, a mini refrigerator and a nice vanity. Evidently, the insanely spacious and regal bathroom, which featured a round two-person bath tub and a separate shower, easily became our favourite part about the whole villa.
Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa is indeed the epitome of relaxation. The fabulous Infinity Pool at the resort that overlooks the breathtaking ocean is a fitting place to be for you to sit back and bask in the sun over some cocktails, and in the early mornings, professional yoga classes are held at the Yoga Garden. Occasionally, dance classes are also held.
If you’re adventurous and would love to explore the natures of Lombok, mountain climbing, trekking and trips to the waterfalls can be arranged by the resort. The resort also provides island snorkelling tours and diving lessons should you want to check out the vast marine life under the crystal clear sea water. Up for exploring Lombok on your own? You can rent scooters just outside the resort for a small fare.
When it comes down to spa and wellness, Puri Mas surely is the best in its class. Separated from the resort itself, Puri Mas has its own dedicated Spa Resort that’s located about 1.5 kilometres away and it’s a hidden paradise you just have to see for yourselves. You can get to and from the Spa Resort via a complimentary shuttle arranged by the resort.
Comprising of two standalone Spa Villas, the charming Spa Resort features a designer revitalising pool, and is surrounded by tropical gardens of scented flowers, palm trees, quirky statues and even some animals. We experienced the Relaxing Aromatherapy Massage treatment, which is the most popular amongst the hotel guests. With essential oils, the therapist relaxes the muscles by using gentle rhythmic pressure strokes, accompanied by calming music playing in the background.
For breakfast in the morning, the resort’s Ballroom Restaurant offers a menu with various breakfast dishes for us to choose from. The croissants were buttery and flaky, and the simple egg dishes were scrumptious. On top of that, dining with the rejuvenating sounds of ocean waves hitting against the rocks was as enjoyable as it sounds.
Every evening, that same restaurant gets transformed into a lovely romantic setting that’s dimly lit. Guests can choose to order from the ala carte menu, or try out the resort’s seafood barbecue buffet dinner that consists of a barbecued selection of meats and seafood, soups and salads, savoury traditional and Western dishes, pastas, fruits and an assortment of delectable desserts.
During the time of our stay, Puri Mas also hosted a Latin Night whereby guests were entertained with live music and dance performances as they dined. The hospitable staff and hotel crew all participated in the event, and it made us feel like we were part of their little family. Their enthusiasm and effort is highly commendable.
Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa is unmistakably one of the most memorable resorts we’ve ever stayed at. We loved everything about it – the resort itself, our jacuzzi villa, the food, its surroundings and the top-notch hospitality. We reckon that it’s a heavenly honeymoon destination for couples, and you certainly wouldn’t want to miss out.
