South Korean photographer Ji Yeo blames South Korea’s culture that enforces the concept of an ideal beauty upon both men and women. Last year, 20% of women between ages 19 to 49 in Seoul admitted to going under the knife. Even Gangnam Style singer PSY was urged to undergo plastic surgery to enhance his looks.
South Korea’s obsession with plastic surgery caught the attention of the world when images of the 20 Miss Korea 2013 finalists emerged online, showing how all the contestants looked the same.
A Korean TV show called “Let’s Beauty” is known for helping South Koreans with low self-esteem by helping them boost their confidence. A pair of twin sisters who were deemed “too ugly” were lucky enough to get sponsored to go under the knife by the show.
The twins honestly didn’t look so bad, but they could have had some dental work done. However, the doctors on the show transformed them into “new and improved” twins, who are still identical but look completely different from who they were before.
