We recently shared some of the hottest beauty looks straight off the Fall/Winter 2013 runway, and we’ve decided to recreate one of the looks! Thakoon’s FW2013 in particular, stole our hearts because it combined two of the most challenging aspects of eye make-up – blue eyeshadow and glitter. The runway look may seem a little over-the-top, but with the right technique and and some simple modification, these dramatic eyes can be perfect for a cocktail party, or a simple night out with the girls!
Diane Kendal for NARS Cosmetics is the lead make-up artist behind the Thakoon FW2013 runway show, said Thakoon’s winter collection is inspired by summer. “It was a combination of rich fabrics with short-sleeved dresses and heavy stoles with dragonflies. We wanted to reflect that in the makeup, so we did a very dark midnight blue shadow, but to get that summer feel we added glitter on top. It created the perfect juxtaposition between winter and summer.”
Relying heavily on NARS Cosmetics’ Fall 2013 collection, Diane used Ubangi Eye Paint, Outremer Single Eyeshadow, and the Marie Galante Duo Eyeshadow for this mysterious look.
Since we couldn’t get our hands on NARS Cosmetics yet, we’ve decided to recreate the look with the tools in our own make-up bag! Your essential tools include dark blue, purple and black eyeshadow as your base. To create the shimmer, you want to use gold micro-glitter eyeshadow, but we used a combination of colors from the Urban Decay Moondust shade for a more lush, 3D sparkle!
First, conceal your eyes and apply an eyeshadow primer over the eyes. Then apply a dark purple eyeshadow to your eyelids from lash line to crease, and repeat the same step with a blue shadow over it.
Apply black eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eyes along the lash line and crease, blending it well. You can choose extend a cat-eye for more drama to your look. But if it’s too much, you can go ahead and skip it like we did. Sweep over a brighter shade of blue over the black to highlight the crease a little more.
Bring out the sparkly eyeshadows, and apply them on the lids sparingly. You want to work your way up to the sparkle so that it doesn’t overpower the colors under it. Use your finger to apply the colors to work around it. If you want a flakey effect like the runway here’s a tip – wet your eyeshadow brush, sweep it on the bed of the eyeshadow, and pat it gently on your eyelids. Here’s what we’ve mustered:-
Apply black liquid liner at the outer lids to define the shape of your eyes. Finish off with lengthening mascara and nude lipstick.
