The judges behind the Miss America 2014 pageant gets thumbs up for embracing diversity in Sunday night’s event!
Nina Davuluri aka Miss New York, was in tears when she walked the runway in a canary-yellow evening gown. In July, she was crowned Miss New York, and is also the first Indian-American to be named Miss New York and Miss America!
However, her victory was totally not without controversy. On Friday, Nina – who lost 60 pounds and struggled with bulimia before – was accused for criticizing previous Miss America as “fat”.
Sources say:
“Davuluri invited friends back to her hotel room after her win. A girl in the next room overheard their conversation, and was so offended she decided to tape part of it. A friend of Davuluri was supposedly heard making racist remarks, and Davuluri is allegedly heard on the tape blasting Miss America, ‘Mallory’s fat as f*ck’”.
Her comments were brought to the board of the Miss America pageant however pageant organizers denied that Davuluri did anything wrong.
Davuluri then made a public Facebook apology:
“I want to apologize for the awful statements made by people in my room . . . There were people who claimed to be my supporters and said things I never agreed with, nor supported . . . I was never a part of the words or statements that may have been hurtful . . . I’m sorry if someone said something that was inappropriate.”
So much drama in the pageant world!
