What comes in mind when you think of the word charcoal? Barbecues? Tablets for the days when your stomach isn’t feeling so great? But did you know that charcoal isn’t just good for your gut or for that perfect barbecue dinner with your family?
Activated charcoal (or activated carbon) is carbon that has been treated with oxygen, which results in a fine black powder that contains tiny pores to soak up other gases and toxins that come with it. The most common form of activated charcoal are the charcoal tablets you consume to get rid of that horrible bloat that’s making your jeans tight! Mainly used to treat poisoning, gastrointestinal issues, and even hangovers, activated charcoal can also be a useful thing to have as part of your beauty regimen.
Here’s a list of beauty benefits of activated charcoal:-
1. Acts as a powerful, yet gentle cleanser
2. Heals body acne, blackheads or bumps caused by impurities
3. Cleanses the skin thoroughly to eliminate dirt and oil
4. Works as a great ingredient to detox the skin from toxins and free radicals.
5. Healing properties help heal little pimple scars while disinfecting it.
6. Helps eliminate body odor
7. Works as a great teeth whitener
8. Deep cleanses the scalp to remove build-up and get rid of dandruff.
If you’d like to use activated charcoal, your best bet is to use charcoal tablets. Yes, the little black disks you swallow at the first sign of stomach discomfort.

These little gems can be used to treat most of the beauty woes you have. Here are three simple treatments you can make with just a strip of charcoal tablets.
Teeth-whitening treatment
If you feel your teeth is lacking that instant glow, there’s no need to spend three figures at the dentist. Simply crush a charcoal tablet, then put some toothpaste on your toothbrush as you normally would. Dip it into the charcoal powder and start brushing. It can be quite alarming to see your entire mouth turn black, but don’t worry – once you rinse, the color will disappear.
Deep-cleansing charcoal face mask
Make a charcoal face mask with a few simple ingredients like a treatment oil and aloe vera. Crush one or two charcoal tablets and combine it with some tea tree oil and aloe vera gel to make a paste. Apply it on your skin and leave it on until it completely dries. Rinse and pat dry. You’ll notice that your skin will feel fresh and radiant after you’ve rinsed the paste off.
Charcoal body scrub
If you suffer from body odor, you can make a charcoal scrub with some brown sugar, essential oils and a few charcoal tablets that have been crushed into powdered form. Combine the ingredients in a round container and mix well. Apply it to affected areas like your feet or underarms and massage it into the skin during your shower. Then rinse and pat dry.
