We get it – the Minions of Despicable Me get more attention than the main characters of the movie. They’re cute, they’re clumsy, they make no sense – they’re pretty adorable after a while.
The ‘Minions Craze‘ has spread across Malaysia in a blink of an eye. People can’t resist taking pictures with their life-size cardboard cutouts in the mall, or sharing videos of the Minions trying to karaoke. But when McDonald’s Malaysia decided to include figurines of the Minions in their Happy Meals, it only encouraged the Minions Craze, and that took it to a whole new level of crazy.
Apart from a line full of kids, you’ll also find a line full of adults ordering Happy Meals just to collect as many of the Minions figurines as the could. Nothing out of the ordinary there, right? Wrong.

The high demand for these Minions are leaving Malaysians in distress over how the fast food chain is unable to cope with the demands of angry Malaysians over toys. If you scroll through your Facebook feed (if you dare), you’ll see some of your friends getting excited over their collection of toys. But then you’ll see passive-aggressive remarks about not being able to obtain a Minion after queuing up for a whole hour.
Lets excuse the poor parents who are buying these toys for their kids. But can you believe there are adults demanding to buy these toys so they can earn an extra buck by selling it off to a desperate customer? Insane!
Due to this insanity, McDonald’s Malaysia decided to release this statement on their Facebook page:
“We would like to thank you for your tremendous support towards the Happy Meal ‘Despicable Me 2’ promotion. However, due to overwhelming response, we have been receiving numerous feedback from our Happy Meal customers that they are unable to attain the toy for their children. As this promotion was designed to be part of the Happy Meal programme, please be informed that each ‘Despicable Me 2’ toy will be available only with the purchase of a Happy Meal and while stocks last.
One toy per one Happy Meal. Should you wish to purchase more than 1 Happy Meal, you may request for different Week 2 designs in each of your meals, but ONLY while stocks last.
Happy Meals are available all day long, either with Breakfast Happy Meals or our regular hour Happy Meals. Menu details at www.mcdonalds.com.my.
We strive to provide overall customer satisfaction to all our patrons and we believe by reinforcing the above will help to ensure that children are not disappointed and will walk away with a smile on their faces”
To the grown men or women who are harassing these poor McDonald’s employees because these toys are “sold out”, remember that they’re for ‘children’. Not adults. Children.
