Just recently, a video Charles Ramsey became an instant Internet meme. The video was of an interview with Charles, providing plant of entertaining gags for a viral video, including memorable soundbites like “I was eaten’ my McDonald’s”, and various enthusiastic gestures.
And while Charles somewhat charming persona has fed the public’s desire to laugh and auto tone his story, it did nothing to overshadow his heroism,
In the video, Charles helped rescue three women from Cleveland who were presumed dead ten years ago. According to investigators, the women were forced to endure years of sexual abuse and beatings inside a rundown house. The women were Amanda Berry (name mentioned in the video), Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. The were bolted to freedom when Berry’s screams alerted her neighbor, Charles.
Sources say the victims were held in chains during at least part of their captivity, and the kidnappers were arrested by the police. The brothers, Ariel Castro, 52, the owner of the house and a former bus driver; Pedro Castro, 54; and Onil Castro, 50 were being held on suspicion of rape and kidnapping.
As for the victims, Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba said that they want the victims to spend some time with their families and take this process very, very slowly and respectful for their families and the young girls’ needs.
