This haunting fact is not something to shy away from as more cases of domestic abuse are currently surfacing throughout the world. It is imperative that women learn to protect themselves from any potential abuse from their partners, whether physical or emotional. There are five major signs that should lead up to an abusive relationship, so if your partner fits any of the criteria below, it may be time to rethink this relationship.
1. He Loses His Temper Often
Everyone has the potential to lose their temper but as we know, taking out your anger on someone, especially on someone you love is downright wrong.
If you feel that your partner has frequently loses his temper over the smallest things, that should be something to watch out for. Taking his anger out on you is one thing, but keeping it the way it is could lead to physical violence. (Source)
2. He is A Little Too Overprotective
A lot of women would feel a surrounding depth of warmth and security if their partner would tell them that they shouldn’t go out too late at night since it’s not safe. But there’s a major difference between being concerned or being overprotective. If it gets to a point where he doesn’t let you out of the house, or restricting you from going out with male peers, this could count as an emotionally abusive relationship.
3. He Criticizes Everything About You
Harsh comments about your weight, hair, job, position, or even clothing are signs that he isn’t going to love you for who you are. Letting these harsh criticisms get to you will affect you self-esteem, making you vulnerable to his needs. As soon as a man begins to criticize you in front of your face or other people, you may need to rethink the relationship.
4. He Controls Everything You Have
Does your partner constantly keeps a very tight lock on your time, money and even social life? Does he interrogate you about who you’ve spoken to, had lunch with or even spies on you? If your partner constantly requires that you be home on time from work everyday, or even cutting you off from your family, he is showing some very obvious signs of control and abuse. Wanting to know here you are every moment of the day should not be mistaken for concern but they simply believe their control over you may be threatened. (Source)
5. He Treats You Like Dirt
Potential abusers can sometimes treat their partners as slaves as opposed to lovers. Relationships should be about equality, so if your partner starts accusing you of cheating, or even demands a lot more than you can handle without considering what you have going on in your life, there’s a high chance that he’s emotionally abusing you in controlling ways.
