Is cutting down on chocolate, cake and other sweet treats part of your 2014 resolution? If it is, you won’t have to completely eliminate these delicious treats from your diet. In fact, all you need to do is be in control of your mind and learn how to control your sugar cravings. Here are six simple methods to help you eliminate your cravings for all things sweet!

Get your sugar elsewhere
Instead of chowing down on a candy bar, opt for sweet natural alternatives like fruits. Mandarins, bananas and apples can easily feed your sugar cravings, but if you want a sweet beverage, ditch the soda and have a glass of ice cold honey water with fresh lemon juice for some zest!

Eat regularly
Your blood sugar level can drop when you’ve not had enough to eat. This causes you to feel hungry and boosts your cravings for something sweet. You should have three meals a day along with two snacks, but if you tend to feel hungry faster, plan out five meals a day instead.

Have a protein-rich breakfast
Having a good breakfast does not only give you energy, but it also pumps your body up with nutrients that will keep your sugar cravings at bay. Avoid high-carb and sugary foods for breakfast, and go for sandwiches, meats, eggs, or even breakfast smoothies!

Take a walk
Whenever you feel the urge to grab something sweet to nibble on, stop what you’re doing and take a walk. Do anything that allows a change of scenery as it helps take your mind off your food craving. It’ll beat the craving, and you’ll feel even better about yourself since you’ve successfully combat your craving like a champ.

Detox from sugar
Sugar cravings are extremely hard to eliminate, especially when you want to go cold turkey. After a day or two, you fall out and immediately worsen your sugar intake. Instead of trying to cut it all out completely, try doing it a day at a time. Once you get the hang of it, your body starts to adjust and may just find sugar less appealing. Before embarking on a sugar detox plan, talk to your local physician first.

Take note of nutrient deficiencies
A lack of nutrients in your body such as chromium, magnesium, vitamin B3, and iron can lead to sugar cravings. Get more of these nutrients from fruits or supplements and you’ll notice how much your sugar cravings will decrease.
