Are you a hopeless alcoholic that just can’t stay away from liquor especially whisky? Well, here’s something that might just gross you out enough to quit – whisky made from urine. Yes, urine, we’re not kidding. It’s not just any urine, this Gilpin Family Whisky is made from urine of elderly diabetics because “large amounts of sugar are excreted on a daily basis by type-two diabetic patients, especially amongst the upper end of our aging population.
After collecting the urine, the sugar will be extracted through purification and the urine will then be added to the mash stock for the fermentation process. Well, it’s fermented and filtered so it’s supposed to be clean, but will you even bring a cup of this drink anywhere near your mouth? But nonetheless, whether your answer is a no or a yes, the whisky isn’t for sale; it’s given away as a public health statement. Let’s hope other whisky makers won’t get this idea and start making liquor out of urine.
