Just as the name goes, Chow Tofu means Smelly Tofu coz it’s fermented. Before we started ordering the waitress ensured if we are really going to eat there and emphasized on the smelliness.
This is my first time having fermented fried tofu. The experience was OK!
Our first order was Original Style Tofu with homemade chilli sauce and pickled cabbage; it really did have a very strong stench. I kinda liked the way they fried it, very crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The taste is rather an acquired taste but still edible. The soft part is where all the smell contains. Our second order was Dry Pan Mee with no tofus in it. This tasted like any other ordinary pan mee no surprises there.
The third order was the best; it’s called the Malaysian Style. Basically, it’s fruit rojak. This version of the tofu was very nicely deep fried hence, it didn’t have that weird taste. It was all crispy yet the smell was still there.
It was a new experience for me and I enjoyed the meal. Well, if you want tofu and you don’t mind the smell and love having bad breathe afterwards. This is the meal for you!
They have several style of tofu dishes and they are located at a stretch of shop lots next to Tesco Extra Selayang along Jalan Kuching.
