Flip flops could be your best footwear for casual hangouts or summer, but don’t wear it if you’re planning to drive.
According to the latest research from UK, flip flops can slow down your breaking time by 0.13 seconds, which is equivalent of travelling 3.5 metres further at 60mph (approximately 96.56kmh). In other words, flip flops make it more difficult for people to brake effectively.
The research also shows that flip-flops are responsible for up to 1.4 million near misses of accident every year.
“Sheilas’ Wheels, an Insurer also concluded that 33 per cent of motorists admit driving in flip-flops from a poll of 1,055 motorists. 27 per cent of them admitted that the flip-flops had caused a motoring mishap and 7 per cent of them were claimed near miss or accident.”
“Meanwhile, almost 60 per cent claimed that they’re wearing not suitable foot wear and 20 per cent of them were still wearing the same footwear after they had a near miss or accident.”
