7 Lunar New Year Feasts That’ll Leave You Swimming In Abundance & Prosperity

For 15 days, Chinese families around the globe gather for two weeks of togetherness, family union and the exchange of red envelopes to attract good luck for the new year. And while the reunion dinner is often regarded as the most important custom as it is said to set the tone for the whole year, every day of the Lunar New Year calls for celebration and that equals to lots of feasting.

As food is the cornerstone of these glorious get-togethers, a ton of symbolic Lunar New Year foods tend to be served in the spirit of the festivities to ultimately welcome prosperity. With that said, we’ve rounded up seven venues around the Klang Valley you can dine with your loved ones this Lunar New Year. This also means less faffing around with preparations or cleaning!

1. The Eatery, Four Points by Sheraton Puchong

Prepare for a hearty meal at The Eatery as the chefs present a menu featuring a myriad of mouth-watering dishes including the Six-Treasure Traditions yee sang with snow pear, marinated soy clams and a combination of fresh sashimi which can be packed for take-away at RM85 per platter. The 9-course lunch and dinner sets are priced from RM1,388 nett for ten pax. Meanwhile, the dinner buffet special welcomes families on 15th Feb 2018 at RM140 nett per person.

Highlights: Tiger prawn in sun-dried persimmon butter cream, and the wok fried rice with crispy sun-dried scallop, shrimp and preserved olives

2. Li Yen, The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur

Award-winning restaurant Li Yen is welcoming the Year of the Dog with delectable culinary offerings with its lunch and dinner menus, alongside a selection of fine Dim Sum, all specially curated by Executive Chef Leung Kwai Hong. The lunch and dinner set menus are priced from MYR 1,388 and MYR 1,888 nett per table of 10 persons, available from 15 Feb – 18 Feb 2018.

Highlights: Deep-fried meat and minced prawn roll from the Dim Sum selection, and the steamed clay pot rice with Chinese waxed meat

3. Shanghai, JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur

Stir up good fortune and wealth this year with Shanghai restaurant’s interesting take on yee sang, featuring additions such as salmon, lobster, and geoduck. Vegetarians who wish to indulge in the auspicious dish can also opt for the yee sang topped with vegetarian ham. Guests can choose from three different set menus which start from RM288 per person, or go a la carte and pick from the unique curation of dishes prepared by the chef.

Highlights: Braised Spanish pork with pine nuts and vegetable

The specially curated Lunar New Year set and a la carte menus are available for lunch and dinner from 1 February until 2 March 2018.

4. Yue, Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel

In the merriment of CNY, Sheraton PJ’s Yue will be serving up menu spreads which start from RM2,288 per table of ten. The yee sang, priced at RM118, can be topped with Norwegian salmon, pear as well as Australian abalone. Diners can also opt for the Chinese New Year buffet feast for RM98 (lunch) and RM108 (dinner) nett per person or, have reunion dinner in the banquet hall for RM1,888 nett per table

Highlights: Smoked duck with dragon fruit sauce and money bags, and the double-boiled dried scallop soup with morel and fish maw.

5. Nook, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral

Greet the Lunar New Year with a hearty spread at Nook with a combination of traditional and modern dishes prepared by the Chef Ng Kok Wai whereby three set menus are available for lunch and dinner priced from RM1,699++ per table. Ranging from RM113 to RM198, choose from the Prosperity Tuberosum (potato) Salmon Yee Sang or the Golden Pumpkin Jelly Fish Duo Yee Sang. Meanwhile, the buffet dinner is priced at RM118 nett per adult.

6. St. Regis Kuala Lumpur

If you’re after a one-of-a-kind Chinese New Year menu, look no further than St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s unique take on traditional Chinese cuisine to welcome the Year of the Dog. All the set menus, including a vegetarian option, are priced from RM398++ per person, and begin with the signature Prosperity yee sang, made with a base of finely chopped salad, complemented with assorted nuts, as well as an option of slices of salmon or abalone.
