Fashion Friday: Goodbye Old Clothes!

So you’re standing in front of your wardrobe and you realize that although there really isn’t much space to squeeze in anymore clothes, you also have surprise, surprise, nothing to wear.

Luckily for you (and the rest of us ladies) there are plenty of avenues to sell of your unworn pieces both online and offline that are closer to home. In today’s Fashion Friday, we present to you our favourite go-to websites when we find ourselves in need to sell off some wardrobe extras.

TRADES by TRADE OR TREAT

The brainchild behind Trades is a girl simply known as Ashley who says that Trades is a space created for a society of fashion lovers to have a little bargain for that fashion lust. Indeed, if you’re looking for a piece but can’t afford the high price tag, you might want to look around in Trades because you might find it at a bargain by someone else who no longer needs it, unworn and brand new!

At Trades, only fashion items such as clothes, shoes, bags and accessories are allowed. Trades is the most popular trade site operated by users themselves and is occasionally moderated by its owner, Ashley. According to Ashley, there are a few dilemmas that come with online shopping such as incorrect size and impulse purchases, and she thought “What if I could sell them to others in good condition and continue to shop knowing that I have an avenue to resell them if in the event I don’t like it?”

And so, Trades was born.

Everyone can post up their items (a maximum of 4 pictures per item) using Trades’ public account. Just be responsible and don’t bump up your posts otherwise it will be unfair to other users. Also after you item has been sold, delete your old posts.

PASAR NIGHT

A more literal translation would mean Pasar Malam after our ubiquitous night markets all over Malaysia where most bargains can be found. Pasar Night is the sister site of Your Shopping Kaki, a shopping review site managed by Sha-Lene and has been in operation since October 2010.

She created the site after receiving many emails from readers who requested her help to post up items for sale on their behalf. Pasar Night accepts any items as long as they are in good condition, from clothes to accessories to gadget and books.

According to Sha-lene, “I wanted to create a virutal space where anyone in Malaysia can sell items – and share the convenience and ease of online shopping with more people! Of course, this idea is neither new nor original but hopefully our personal touch will make shopping here an experience, not just a transaction.”

To sell your items, refer to the guide on Pasar Night under the “Selling” tab and send your details as well as images (maximum of 4) to pasarnight@gmail.com and you’ll see your post up within 7 days.

SHOPPERS’ PLATFORM

The concept of Shoppers’ Platform is pretty similar to Pasar Night but is updated more frequently. Shoppers’ Platform concept is simple: for people to sell off our unwanted clothing and for others to benefit from it by getting their dream items at discounted prices.

SWAP PARTIES

If you’re hesitant about buying and selling online, and you don’t really have enough to book a stall at your local flea market why not try joining a Swap Party! Swap parties are quickly gaining popularity here in the Klang Valley but really, you can also organize it within your own group of friends. For a good variety of merchandise anywhere from 5 up to 20 people should be doable. It’s fun, economical, eco-friendly and you get plenty of new clothes without spending a single cent.

You’re in luck because this Saturday (February 18, 2012) there will be a swap party at The Bee, Publika from 1pm-5pm where you can bring accessories, home deco, clothing and books in exchange for other’s treasures. Each participant can only bring 5 items to swap and they must be in good condition. All unwanted items will be given to charity, that’s a double win and a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon.
