Seems like Steve Harvey just can’t keep his nose clean each time he steps onto the Miss Universe stage. The man just can’t keep it together, can he?
From announcing the wrong 2015 Miss Universe winner, to saying that Miss Philippines won Best National Costume in Miss Universe 2019, when in actuality, it was Miss Malaysia – he’s had many foot-in-mouth moments. This time around, the host of Miss Universe is under fire for asking the 2021 Miss Universe, Harnaaz Sandhu, to meow on the world stage (Meow, dude? Come on).
What made many viewers extremely perplexed was that most of the top 16 finalists were given the opportunity to speak about their achievements – whereas Harnaaz was prompted, by Harvey, to perform her best animal impressions! WTF?
The Miss India beauty did not hide her surprise when asked the question.
“I hear you do some pretty good animal impersonations. Let’s hear your best one.” – Harvey
However, Harnaaz took it like a champ and handled it with grace and elegance. After bracing herself, she literally meowed on the international pageantry stage.
“Oh my God, Steve, I was not expecting to do this on the world stage. I have to do this — I have no other option.”
This obviously did not sit well with avid Miss India fans. Numerous viewers criticized Harvey’s comments, questioning why Harnaaz hadn’t been given the opportunity to talk about her job or philanthropy when other women in the competition were.

After receiving tons of backlash from the entire universe (get it?), Harnaaz came to Harvey’s defense and stated that she didn’t mind being asked to impersonate an animal.
“I was like, ‘Wait, they want me to do that on the Miss Universe world stage?’ But then I thought, ‘This is my time to shine and my time to showcase one of my great talents, and why not? We’re all here to embrace ourselves.'”
She added that she wanted to bring joy to everyone who was watching the Miss Universe contest; and that she was ecstatic that she was able to stand next to Harvey.
“I wanted to make the most out of it. I think everybody was in the moment and everyone enjoyed it, and that’s what really matters at the end of the day.”
I guess we can say that Harvey is out of hot water – but should probably prepare a better set of questions next time.
