Daphne Iking Dons Hijab On Instagram & Sends Fans Into A Frenzy

When news broke that Malaysian TV personality Daphne Iking has married a powerful Malay businessman in 2011, jaws dropped.

The Sabahan beauty’s decision to embrace Islam and subsequently, marry Azmi Abdul Rahman, or fondly known as Joe –whose vast business interests included Redberry, The Malay Mail, Bernama TV and The Malaysian Reserve– came after she visited the Taj Mahal in India.

Someone once told me he’s a believer of God and goes by the rule of doing, thinking and being good and kind and compassionate in all that he does. . He says he does not belong to any “religion”. . I thought that was blasphemy (knowing he was raised in a Muslim home)but I reserved my comment. . Now I understand his point of view. . As I watch him pray 5 times a day, has refused a handsome job because he felt the fees and the objectives didn’t sit well with his conscience, is extremely loyal and devoted to his wife and 4 kids, is blunt when it comes to life choices sticking to integrity and honesty in his decisions, fasts during the fasting month and offers his alms, be it in monetary form or volunteering – I respect his decision to not categorize his belief. . Since I’m getting all these “Mualaf. Tapi tak Muslim pun” sort of comments in my recent post, Maybe I am just that and I’m ok with that label of not being Muslim enough to be part of your “club”. . I believe in one God. The Father Almighty. Creator of Heaven and Earth. . May HE guide and protect us.

Still, a lot of people gave her a hard time for not wearing hijab or for practicing what the religion forbids her to do such as touching dogs and celebrating Christmas, with some even went so far as to label Daphne as a “faux-Muslim”.

Not cool, peeps. These kind of negative messages could easily make a person grow “tired” of Islam, as they would feel forced to do something to please the masses, instead of God.

Thank you to all those who wish and pray for me to have this, as my permanent look and dressing. I was dressed and styled especially for the event last night. . I have my reasons for not donning a tudung (just yet?) – I truly believe, especially in a society like ours where one is quick to judge and point out flaws instead of looking at the brighter side, best I betulkan and improve my knowledge and strengthen the iman dahulu, so the outer reflects my inner journey too. God MUST be telling me something though. There has been too many circumstances in a series of events that have made me dig deeper in this journey of discovering myself and the deen. . In turn of events, this new year, just as Daphne was about to lose her faith in Islam, she had an amazing opportunity to work with an inspiring lady named Elfaeza from Ul Haq Productions, for an event which required her to don a hijab or scarf.

She described the experience to be life-changing.
